On April 7, 2017, a delegation led by the Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Dr. Yukiya Amano, visited Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (SNERDI). Senior Vice President of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) and President of SNERDI, Dr. ZHENG Mingguang, Vice Presidents of SNERDI, Mr. GU Guoxing and Mr.YAN Jinquan and representatives of young engineers in SNERDI attended the meeting.

Dr. ZHENG introduced the historical footprints, technical routines, international cooperation and talents training of SNERDI. And he presented latest progress on self-reliance project and national major project CAP1400, and the achievements made through equipment localization. On behalf of SNPTC and SNERDI, he specifically appreciated the efforts IAEA made on the development of China’s nuclear power technology.

Dr. Amano analyzed the increasing nuclear power interests of nuclear power in the world and the rapid development in China. He emphasized that technology was very important and doing the new construction was not easy. Therefore, he was glad that SNERDI had overcome the challenges of AP1000 and moving further.

He said the researches and tests of various types of nuclear power plants made by China were not only important for our own country, but also a contribution for the world. In addition, the hope of nuclear industry is the young generation. IAEA are encouraging young generation, including women, which is very important, getting more interests in nuclear power and nuclear technology.

At last, he wished all young engineers an excellent future and he inspired them continuing to deepen their knowledge and experiences and consistently contributing for the development of the technology and for the welfare of human beings.
