On April 16, 2019, Mr. Dobrica Savic, head of the Nuclear Information Section of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (SNERDI). Dr. Zheng Mingguang, chief designer of CAP1400 and president of SNERDI met with Mr. Savic and exchanged opinions on digitalization development of nuclear industry.

    Dr. Zheng reviewed extensive cooperation between and IAEA, analyzed the development of nuclear energy in China, and the strategic considerations, overall planning and implementation of digital design system in SNERDI. Mr. Savic introduced IAEA’s research on digital transformation and the practice of International Nuclear Information System (INIS) digitalization, and expressed  his hope on strengthening bilateral collaboration cooperation and introducing more experiences to global communities from SNERDI through IAEA platform.

    The cooperation between SNERDI and IAEA could be traced back to last century, starting with the support program on Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA). Under the major developments, transformation and adjustment of the nuclear industry, SNERDI and IAEA are becoming increasingly interconnected and interdependent. Especially during the latest decade, over 220 staffs were engaged in the collaboration with IAEA; over 17 technical meetings were held in SNERDI; 7 projects were developed in the areas of In-vessel Retention, off-site emergency, nuclear knowledge management and so on. Potential joint researches and cooperation on digitalized design will be discovered along with the trends of nuclear industry.
