This meeting is intended to start the development of a new Nuclear Energy Series Report to assist Member States in understanding the adoption of systems engineering principles for nuclear power plant instrumentation and control.

Systems engineering is an proven interdisciplinary approach that has been found successful in aerospace and shipbuilding industries. It is expected that systems engineering will be able to address the ever-increasing complexity of nuclear power plant projects while meeting the constraints of tight schedules and budgets. This Nuclear Energy Series Report is the first of its kind in IAEA to conduct concrete work on systems engineering for nuclear power plant instrumentation and control.

In this consultancy meeting, the SNERDI expert shared insights on and experience of systems engineering applications in nuclear power plant projects. In the formulation of the extended outlines of the publication, the SNERDI expert played a leading role in determining the adoption of a major international approach as the reference framework, laying the basis for presenting technical processes in nuclear scenarios in the commonly accepted terminology. As the responsible author, the SNERDI expert was in charge of several key topics in the publication, and the quality of draft delivered at the meeting was highly recognized by the IAEA officer and international experts.

To complete this publication on schedule, several more consultancy meetings have been planned this year. SNERDI experts will continue to support this new efforts at IAEA and make its unique contribution by sharing the Chinese experience and perspective.
